Transport, control and storing
Fibo Wall Panels have to remain at room temperature for a minimum of 3 days before installation, or even longer if they have been stored in a cold location.
The panels are to be protected against moisture during transport and storage, laying on a flat surface. The decor side of one panel should be touching the decor side of another.
This is to protect the decors from damage.
Avoid sliding the panels around, as that can create scratches.
The panels should always be lifted.
The building must be closed, and all concrete and sanding work has to be finished.
Be aware that the end user must control the product before use.
If a panel with faults ends up installed, the liability would be reduced to the panels value only.
Circular saw / Jigsaw:
use a firm table or work
bench to work on.
Decorative side down.
Use a fine-toothed saw.
The cut should only be made on the downward stroke. decorative side up.
Use file at the shallow angle
away from the laminated edge decorative side up.
Apertures for pipes. The aperture should have min. 5 mm clearance. Seal with sealing even if the pipe is to be fitted with collar.
Fibo Wall panels are delivered
with the Aqua Lock system.
This makes the installation
easy and gives a consistent
and great result.
Before installing panels check that the underlying surface is level and the distance between battens -
Vertically: 600mm Horizontally: 800mm.
Panels can also be glued to walls providing these are sound.
Use a high tensile strength glue applied to the back of the panel in a zig-zag pattern.
Check that the panels are correctly aligned. Panels have a dripping nose at both ends and can be installed either way around.
Where an installation is to go around a room, start by ensuring that the last panel is cut to fit over the door
Fit panels using our Aqualock easy-to-fit tongue and groove system, clicking into place as you go.
The last panel on each run of the wall should be cut to size and swung into position with the color profile attached the profile is then fastened to the start or button to ensure the panel is fully waterproof remember to use approved polymer sealant in the color profile and all exposed plywood
Cut the panel to size and adjust the width so that the nail/screw are countersunk remember that the panel must be correctly aligned remember to use polymer Sealand on all the exposed plywood to ensure product is fully waterproof because the profile is fastened to the button or start before the next panel is installed
Profile two (hidden)
Start the installation above the door. Profile comes pre-drilled. Corner profile fixed into the back of the panel with special screws as shown (included in the package of profile). In the shower area, all edges lubricated with Fibo Seal or other MS Polymer sealant.
The inner corner profile fixed to the upright in pre finished countersunk holes.
Fit the next panel in width and height, apply sealant on the edges and slide the panel into the corner.
Apply sealant (MS Polymer)
in the corner (preferably using masking tape for the best possible result).
Clean with Fibo clean, Fibo fug tool and Fibo Wipes or alternative cleaners.
Fibo Wall panels with the aqua lock system are fixed to the wall framing by screwing into the groove running along the length of the panel. Use number six screws or 35 gypsum board nails at a distance of 200 mm each. The lowest nail/screw must be fastened a maximum of 25 mm from the bottom of the panel
In the areas of high humidity, wall panels must be fitted using approved polymer sealant in every joint. Lean the next panel in the upright position against the wall, next to the previously installed panel. Apply a sufficient amount approved sealant to the front sealant grove. Lock the panels together into the position.
Excess Sealand month must be removed at once by spraying the joint with Fibo Clean and then removing the excess of the sealant with a sealant tool and wiping The surface off with Fibo Wipes.
A. Dry Area - Height adjustments should be made where the panel meets the ceiling. Floor covering material/waterproofing membrane should continue behind the panels approx. 100 mm up the wall. The distance from the bottom of the panel to the floor should be min 3 mm.
B. Wet Area - Height adjustments should be made where the panel meets the ceiling. Floor covering material/waterproofing membrane should continue behind the panels approx. 100 mm up the wall.
The distance from the bottom of the panel to the floor should be min 3 mm. Fibo base profile and polymer sealant must be used. Polymer sealant must also be used between the base profile and the waterproofing membrane.
C. On ceramic tile, dry Area - Height adjustments should be made where the panel meets the ceiling. Height adjustments should be made where the panel meets the ceiling. Leave a gap of 4-5mm between the bottom of the panel and the top of the up-stand to allow for expansion of the sealant.
Fitting over a bath or a shower tray
A. Fitting over a bath or a shower tray - always use a base profile. Sealant must be applied in front and behind the base profile and the panel as well as between the bottom of the profile and the bath or shower tray. Allow for a gap of 2 to 3 mm under the base profile for expansion of the sealant; see diagram A
B. Fitting behind a bath or a shower tray - always use a base profile between the panel and the floor. Follow instructions as in diagram and apply sealant between the panel and the bath, the profile, and the floor. Allow for a gap of minimum 2 to 3 mm under the base profile for expansion of the sealant; see diagram B
Last panel (panel over doorway)
A. The last panel to be used in a whole room installation should be cut to fit above the doorway see diagram A
B. This panel is fitted by cutting off the tongue prior fixing above the door (see diagram B : x = to be cut off). The panel is then fastened “hidden” under the ceiling and door moulding.
Fibo offers the domestic customer a 15-year guarantee, from date of installation, that our panels will remain watertight and will not crack or delaminate if fitted according to our comprehensive fitting instructions and subject to fair wear and tear.
A base profile must be used when installing in wet areas to prevent water damage occurring and, although the Fibo panels core material is water resistant marine WBP plywood, all joints and cut edges and areas around baths or shower trays must be sealed properly using our manufacturers’ recommended hybrid polymer sealant to make the panels fully waterproof. The guarantee may be invalid if this is not carried out.
Our guarantee does not cover faulty installation, accidental damage or misuse, structural movement or incorrect maintenance and storage including the use of inappropriate cleaning materials such as bleach or abrasives.
